‘Anthropocene’ sculpture
Anthropocene (2018). Recycled industrial steel (wax and wood stain finish). In this piece, I have used various elements to infer the presence of a volume in space which is roughly spherical to represent the earth. The use of a highly corroded arched piece of steel and the sooty finish used for the sculpture speak to the fossil-fuelled degradation of the earth. The influence of industry, represented by a sun-like cog, results in the melting of ice caps and rising oceans and this is conveyed by the drop-like extensions and the puddle base.
